Emma Anita Houston Obituary
Emma Anita Houston of Longmont, went to join her Lord and Savior, September 7, 2013 at her home. She was 81. Nita was born December 5, 1931 in New Raymer, Colorado to Thomas Lambert and Lillian Cooper Lambert. Raised on the rugged plains of northeastern Colorado, she learned about hard work and dedication to her family. Nita married Ben Houston on December 30, 1950 in New Raymer. They enjoyed 62 years together, helping and supporting one another. Together, they started Aristocrat Angus Ranch. Their ranch business continued to grow, as they were on the cutting edge of genetic research on their multi properties in Walden, Colorado, Laramie, Wyoming and headquarters in Weld County. They have worked closely with Colorado State University, Ag Department. Nita was extremely involved with the National Western Stock Show, Denver for many years. She served as Chairperson for the steering committee of the "Citizen of the West"; a scholarship fund through National Western for college students going to school in nearby universities and colleges. She also volunteered and worked for many organizations and charities within her community. Nita was a loyal member of LIfeBridge Christian Church. There she served on a number of committees and groups to help the church. In addition, she was a member of P.E.O., Chapter M, and enjoyed herself in the Red Hat Society. She was the epitome of a true matriarch, the center of her entire family and their affairs. Each of her grandchildren had a special arrangement with her, spending quality time with her in their own special way. Preceding her in death are her son Scott Houston and grandson Zachary Miller. Surviving are her husband Ben of Longmont; daughters Pam Miller of Loveland and Diane (Richard) Hergert of Platteville; son Skylar Houston of Platteville; grandchildren Travis (Amy) Hergert, Tawnya (John) Bangert, Josh (Jami) Hergert, Megan (Matt) Ziegler, Taylor Miller, Brandy (Mike) Gieger, and Tanner Houston. She is further survived by her great grandchildren Anna, Josef, Bennett, Owen, Logan, Emma, Morgan, and Jordan. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 13, 2013 at LifeBridge Christian Church. Contributions may be made to the Children's Hospital, Anschutz Hospital Campus, 13123 East 16th Ave., Aurora, Colorado 80045. Share condolences at www.howemortuary.com
