Robert Fobes Obituary
Robert (Bob) Dale Fobes died peacefully in his sleep early Wednesday morning, January 8, 2014 after his courageous battle with cancer. He was at home under Hospice and family care, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on July 4, 1929 to Charles and Jewell Fobes, he grew up on their family farm in Beloit, Kansas. He earned a business degree and graduated from Kansas State University. In 1952, he married Mary C. Madden. They lived in Denver, before making Longmont their home in 1967. Bob had a fantastic professional career; celebrating retirement from MetLife after 36 successful years. In his career (as in life) he was highly valued and known for his integrity and genuine concern and interest in people. Bob and Mary were active members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The most important thing in their lives was family. They thoroughly enjoyed supporting all family activities and events - always there for us! Bob and Mary met on a blind date at a dance and perfected their dance as they built a life together. They moved on the dance floor as they did in life - gracefully with true love for each other. After losing his beloved wife, Mary, to her own battle with cancer in 2009, Bob remained in their Longmont home continuing the treasured legacy of providing a great gathering place for friends and family. Surviving are Bob and Mary's 6 children, Steve (Deb), Julie Dudek, Dave (Cindy), Jan, Tom, and Tim (Sharon); 9 grandchildren: James, Jonathan, Kevin, Matthew, Katie, Jason, Josh, Ryan and Kelly; 2 great-grandchildren, Eden and Jack. Extended family includes sister Pat Doremus; brother Don (Emma) Fobes; nephew Roger (Sylvia) Simpson; great niece Jennifer. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents, Charles & Jewell; sister, Pauline (Everett); brothers Larry and Max (Gwen); brother-in-law Bob Doremus; in-laws, William & Catherine Madden; sister-in-law Sue Madden. A loving and nurturing person, he will be missed by all who were touched by his genuine spirit. He was often referred to as a best friend by family and friends alike. He spent his spare time sharing with his buddies from the "coffee clutch", his good friends in the church breakfast club, and his best buddy, Jerry (Butch) Madden. His fun-loving nature and gentle spirit provided great wisdom and genuine security to all he encountered throughout his life - from work relations to friends, to family, and most certainly to his children. He will be dearly missed and remembered always. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Mon., Jan. 13th at St. John's Catholic Church in Longmont. A private inurnment will take place at Foothills Gardens of Memory in Longmont. Donations in Bob's memory can be made to Tru Community Care Hospice c/o Howe Mortuary.
