Harvey (Lorne) BACHMAN

BACHMAN, (Lorne) Harvey Passed away peacefully on February 14, 2013 at the age of 94 in Victoria, BC. He is survived by his wife, Marion; his son, Bob; his daughter, Cathy and her husband, Murray Kopelow and grandchildren, Erin and husband, Ariel Beery, Daniel, and Miriam and great-granddaughter, Ayela Beery. He is also survived by his sister, Ethel Strang of Toronto and predeceased by his brother Hugh. Harvey was born in Kandahar, Saskatchewan in September 1918. His parents were of Icelandic origin and that was his first spoken language. In 1928, his parents moved to Winnipeg and he spent most of his life there. Many years after retirement, Harvey and Marion moved to Victoria BC. During the war, he was a pilot at the Allied Training Centre in Western Canada. Shortly after victory in Europe, he was transferred to England and continued to fly for the military. Flying was his life's passion, and later in life his hobby was flying glider planes. This love was passed on to his grandson, Daniel, who is a commercial pilot in the U.S. He married Marion in 1949 and they spent many years in an idyllic home on Waterford Avenue in the Winnipeg suburb of Fort Garry. He had various jobs throughout his life, but spent the majority of his career in property management. Harvey was a gentle, humble and empathetic man and was loved by all. He always had a smile for everyone and had an interest in people of all ages. He had a love for animals, especially dogs, dating back to his early days on the farm. He suffered dementia in his last years, but even so was well loved by his care givers. We are fortunate that his personality was unchanged by his illness. He will be missed by all who knew him. We are very grateful to the caregivers of Sunrise Senior Living and the Lodge at Broadmead for their wonderful care of our father and grandfather and the continuing care of our mother and grandmother. A memorial service has taken place. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com "> www.mccallbros.com .
