DE BRUYN, John H. June 1, 1931 - February 12, 2014 John passed away peacefully with his wife, Ann at his side. He will be missed by children Leslie (David) and Gordon (Janice), grandchildren Jennifer (Sam), Andrew, Daniel (Alison), Alex, and Claire, great-grandson Declan, sister Eleanor (Doug), nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by brother Peter and nephew David. Born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, John moved to Vancouver as a young boy. He joined the army in 1947 and met Ann while posted in Vernon in 1950. They married and moved to Victoria in 1951 where he worked for Kelly Douglas and Co. Ltd. and where their children were born. Company promotions took them to Penticton, Vancouver, Kamloops and eventually back to Victoria where they have been for the past 33 years. John believed strongly in treating his customers and co-workers fairly and he was a respected manager. John was active in the Lions Club and Rotary. Before his health failed, he enjoyed the gym, walks, trips to sunny climates and times with family and friends. Until very recently John enjoyed getting out for regular drives with Ann. John was quick with a joke and loved a good laugh. We can't thank the staff at Broadmead Lodge enough for the kindness and care dad received over the past six years. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday March 1, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael's Anglican Church, 4733 West Saanich Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Broadmead Care Foundation in his memory.
