Mary Ball -

October 1, 1921 - April 10, 2013. After a long and full life, Mary left us this week at the age of 91. Predeceased by her husband, George, daughter Sheila, sisters and brother and parents, as well as her best friend, Avis Paul, and other friends in Canada, Australia and England. Survived and missed by her large family; the Kwatashins, the Belstens (-Thomsons), the Millmans, the Nahanees, the Balls, as well as extended family in BC, Alberta and England. Mary was born on a farm in Elkwater Alberta and moved to Victoria in the 1930's, attending Vic High, and later working for Eaton's, the Empress, and the Provincial Government. She loved puns and the English language, was a devoted Anglophile and a fervent cat fan. After retirement Mary and George traveled the world, circling the globe twice and venturing to China, Australia and New Zealand, Hong Kong and Macau, Pakistan, the Phillipines, most of Western Europe and the South Seas. Etc! The highlights of her travels were the many people she met and became penpals with, and she and George were curious and open in the travel experiences they sought. She was devoted to her family and was generous with her time and her cups of tea and is fondly remembered by family, friends, her children's friends, and colleagues. In her last years Mary was a resident of the Oak Bay Lodge, where the staff provided her with tender care and smiles. We extend our thanks to the staff at the Lodge. There will be a remembrance of her life at a future date and she will be included in the monthly memorial at the Lodge in May. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society of BC would be appreciated.
