Patricia Joan (Gardner) POTVIN

POTVIN, Patricia Joan (nee Gardner) March 14, 1936 - November 20, 2013 Our Lord brought home a beautiful angel in the early morning hours on the 20th of Nov. 2013. Pat Potvin was an inspiration to all who met her. A gentle, sweet lady with a spunky side, she always took the time to cherish and love the people in her life. You knew you were special when you saw the mischievous twinkle in her eye or the smile on her face. Strong and courageous, Pat fought breast cancer for 31 years until she could not fight any longer. Pat lived a life of beauty. She saw beauty in everyone and everything. She created it in her home and garden. She painted it on canvas. She followed her dreams in life. A talented and passionate artist, she sketched and painted throughout her life. Pat attended Victoria College of Art and eventually became a respected and much-loved member of the Victoria Sketch Club. Her art work is treasured by many and is displayed in businesses and homes around the world. Her art cards, popular with family and friends, were a Christmas tradition. Pat lived an active life and took pleasure in swimming and skating at The Oak Bay Rec. Centre. She treasured the friendships she made there. Pat always loved a good walk with her many good friends. Pat was born in Edmonton, AB on March 14, 1936. Pat served in the R.C.A.F. 1952 - 1954 where she met the love of her life, Gene Joseph Potvin. As a wife she inspired and supported Gene when he started Thunderbird Insurance. As a mother of six she devoted her life and love to the care of family and home. She was very proud of her children and they of her. She leaves a lifetime of love and cherished memories to her husband of 59 years, Gene, and their children and partners, Tricia Potvin (Holden) (Sherry), David Potvin (Louise), Lorie Potvin, Terri Smith (Terry) and Jim Potvin (Bonnie). She is also remembered and loved by sisters Beverly, Ruby, Sylvia and brothers Ted and Fred, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Joseph Potvin her sisters Zoie, Betty and Dorothy, and brothers Dave and Roger. She lives forever in our hearts. Many thanks to Dr. Cox, Dr. Allan, and all the wonderful nurses, who helped Mom through this last year as she battled cancer. The exceptional support and care by them, family, friends and neighbours, allowed her to remain at home, which was her wish. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Patrick's R C Parish, 2060 Haultain St. on November 29, 2013 at 12 noon, followed by a celebration of life in the church hall. In lieu of flowers donations to Victoria Hospice or BC Cancer Agency V.I. would be greatly appreciated. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die.
