Verna LANE

LANE, Verna Jean August 29, 1926 - December 21, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Lane, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and Lane family matriarch. Jean passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Victoria General hospital the night of the winter solstice. A proud Prince Edward Islander and native of Montague, she was born Jean Hunter-Duvar. She trained as a nurse at Montreal's Royal Victoria Hospital. Then she and husband Dr. Arne Lane came west and settled in the Edmonton area where they raised six children and ran a polled Hereford ranch before moving to Victoria in 1972. After her children were grown she returned to nursing, working at Victoria's Royal Jubilee and the Saanich Peninsula Hospital until she retired. For over 50 years, she was an active member of the PEO women's philanthropic group. The accomplishment she was most proud of was her family. She was always there to cheer on her children and grandchildren, spending many long hours at 4-H shows, school concerts, soccer games and dance recitals. Jean is survived by her loving children Carol Carman (Milton), Ken Lane (Daphne), Lori Mann (David), Janice Williams (Frank), Doug Lane and Sandra Haegert (Joseph). She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren Tara (John), Shannon (Bob), Kailee, Colleen, Rowan, Morgan, Brodin, Kourtenay, Amber (Ray), Dreya (Justin) and Conrad and her great-granddaughter, Gwendolyn Jean. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Eileen Coolen in Lower Sackville, NS., Veda Duvar in Montague and Lis Lane in Charlottetown. A Mom's hug lasts long after she is gone. A celebration of Jean's life will be held on Saturday, January 5 at 10 a.m. at First Memorial Funeral Services, 275 Falaise Dr.
