Patricia Kathleen Page "PK" Irwin

IRWIN, Patricia Kathleen (PK) Page, C.C., O,B.C., D. Litt., F.R.S.C. Poet and artist P.K. Page Irwin passed away peacefully at her home in Victoria, BC, January 14, 2010. She was 93. Daughter of the late Maj. Gen. and Mrs Page, she is survived by her brother, Michael, her step children, Patricia Morley, Sheila Irving and Neal Irwin, and her extended family. Following a career at the National Film Board she married W. Arthur Irwin, former Editor of Macleans Magazine, in 1950. They represented Canada during his postings as Canada's High Commissioner to Australia, Ambassador to Brazil and Ambassador to Mexico and Guatemala. On returning to Canada they settled in Victoria in 1966 where she continued to live following her husband's death in 1999. During her prolific writing career as P.K. Page she wrote over 35 volumes of poetry, fiction, travel diaries, essays and children's books. As the artist P.K. lrwin, she produced a large body of paintings, examples of which are in the National Gallery of Canada, other galleries across Canada, and many private collections. She leaves vivid impressions of her long life and experience in the Maritime Provinces, Central Canada, Western Canada, and her travels abroad. A private family gathering will be followed by a celebration of her life and work at a later date.
