Philip Hind Obituary

HIND, Philip John March 1, 1927 - April 17, 2015 Predeceased by his brother, Desmond, who died during the attack on Singapore. The boys were born to English parents ( Millie and John) in Victoria, B.C. Too young for the forces, Philip joined the Coast Guard, later moving to Rocky Point until retirement. Philip's long affection for horses, and a desire to work with them, led him to Texas for training as a Shoeing-smith or Farrier. His wife, Nigella, and the youngsters, Paul, Noelle, Scott and Mike enjoyed the country life as did Phillip's extended family. Philip was a deeply happy man and a joy to know. Whatever road he is traveling now is richer for his presence. A service will be held on Saturday, May 2nd at 2:00pm, at St. Mathias Church, 600 Richmond Avenue, Victoria, B.C. followed by a tea at 1908 Richardson Street.

I remember Phil well, although it has been years. We had a pony appear on Christmas Eve one year, my kids were sure it was for them. His hooves were very long and curved up, and he was walking on his heels. I called Phil, and he came on Christmas Day to deal with the little fellow - no charge! He said it was our Christmas present to the pony. He really was a gentleman, kind and generous, and will be missed by the horse community. My sincere condolences to the family.

Thank-You Phil for your devotion to the hooves and wellbeing of horses here on VI. My mares Pasha and Nadir were calmed by your caring touch over the years as you trimmed their hooves. I so much enjoyed your outlook on life and especially the motorbiking stories,
Ride on Phil. You will not be forgotten.
Best wishes to Phil's family at this difficult time, I am so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful man.

My heart goes out to the family. Phil was truly one of those incredibly special people. He had a wonderful calmness and gentleness about him and a fine streak of humor, too! I can hear him saying of the horses that they were 'perfect in every way' and sometimes that would be followed by a chuckle especially if they hadn't been the easiest to manage. I can picture the big truck with the blue box followed by the little brown pickup- fixtures on the local roads. He was a true gentleman to man and beast alike.

My thoughts are with Phil's family at this sad time. Phll was a kind and gentle soul. He always had a smile on his face and a quiet and patient manner around the horses (and their owners.) He will be missed.

Phil was our farrier in the 1970's at Morning Star Stables on Happy Valley. He was kind and compassionate to both people and horses. He would line up our school horses and trim their feet and the would touch up the feet of our little Shetland at no charge. I know he will be missed by all who knew him. Tanga (Lambert) Blackburn

I was a teenager when I knew Phil in the 1970's. He was always gentle and quiet around our horses no matter how much they acted up. He was like that with people too, no matter how much they acted up, lol. My condolences and prayers go out to the family.
