ASMUSSEN, Dorothy Helen (nee Mardon) Born Sept 18, 1927 in Toronto, ON. On June 10, 2013 after living on earth for 85 years, her time came to depart Salmon Arm, BC to fly with the angels where she will begin a new life. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Rowland (Rolly) in 1980, Christie Mardon (mother), Clarrie Nicholson and Hilda Browne (aunts). Dorothy is survived by Doug (son) & Julie, Bev (daughter) & Roger, 3 grandsons, Scott & Debra, Bari, Brent & Lindsay; 3 great-grandkids, Paige, Bryce & Paisley; Audrey Aquino (sister), James Mardon (brother), Joyce (cousin) & Dave Gronlund, as well as other in-laws, nieces and nephews in Canada & USA. Dorothy moved to Nanaimo, BC where she met & married Rowland. Where they began raising their family. In July 1967 the family moved to Ucluelet, BC. Upon moving to the west coast she spent countless hours beachcombing for Japanese glass balls after a storm. She dedicated many years to the Ucluelet Co-op Consumers Board, the Tofino Hospital Board (VI Health Authority), performed over 500 marriages as Provincial Marriage Commissioner on the west coast and Vancouver Island, and developed a love for the Chemainus Dinner Theatre attending many productions with Joyce and Dave. In June 2009, Dorothy moved to Tappen, BC to be closer to her family. In April 2010, Dorothy moved into Piccadilly Terrace Retirement Residence where she began actively walking and making new friends. In April 2011, Dorothy suffered a stroke and soon after moved to Park Place Piccadilly Care Home until the angels gave her wings. The family would like to thank the staff of both Piccadilly Terrace Retirement Residence & Keegan (dog), Park Place Piccadilly Care Home and Dr. Goldberg, as well as other medical staff who took wonderful care of her. A memorial service will be held at a future date on Vancouver Island where Dorothy collected many wonderful memories, enjoyed raising her family and had many special friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of "Dorothy Asmussen" to the "Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon".
