RICHES, Elaine (nee Hutchings) 1923 - 2013 It is with peaceful hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandma, "GG", friend, classmate and neighbor Elaine Margaret Riches. Grandma passed away in her own time and with family in the afternoon of February 6th, 2013 at the Victoria Hospice. She leaves behind her loving children Bill (Sharon), Jim (Ying Liu) and Patti, grandchildren Jennifer (Adam), Jason (Becki), Amanda and Devon, great grand-children Jackson, Henry and William. Mom was so proud of her family and will continue to be a source of inspiration for all that knew her. We will miss her deeply and will always cherish the efforts she made to meet her great- grandchildren and live her life to the fullest. We can all take great comfort in knowing she had lived and passed the way she wanted and was ready to find her beloved Bob. Predeceased by her husband Bob, parents George and Margaret Hutchings and brothers, Elaine joins them while leaving us with dignity and grace. She was elegant and tenacious to the end while speaking of her concern for others and ensuring her final days went accordingly. Born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, "Hutch" proudly graduated as an RN from the Saskatoon City Hospital in 1946. After marrying the love of her life in 1948, she and Bob spent many happy years in Saskatoon and Winnipeg raising their family. After leaving the Prairies, the Riches then lived and worked in New Jersey and California before retiring in Victoria in 1983. Elaine was a talented painter, pianist and gardener who loved to knit, craft, read, play bridge, catch up with cherished friends and host countless family events at the "Riches Retreat". Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, February 14th at 2pm with light reception to follow at the Gordon Head United Church located at 4201 Tyndall Ave, Victoria BC. She will be laid to rest alongside Bob in a private ceremony at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to the Victoria Hospice Society, in honour of Elaine. The family would like to thank the countless friends who have supported her over the years and would like to express their tremendous respect and appreciation for the staff and volunteers at the Victoria Hospice Society.
