AGATE, Hubert (John) January 7th, 2013 Born in England. Royal Air Force 1939-1945. Prisoner of War 1942-1945. Served in Europe, North Africa and Mediterranean. John passed away at Saanich Peninsula Hospital after a brief illness. He leaves to grieve son Andrew (Jacqui), grandchildren James, Victoria and Aaron, members of the Solberg family, and in the U.K. sisters Cynthia and Phyllis and numerous family members. While surviving three years in a German prisoner of war camp, where he was a member of the "escape committee", John was instrumental in assisting many allied personnel to escape while choosing to remain a prisoner. Upon his repatriation to England, John married his sweetheart Pamela. After a long and varied career in England, John and Pamela retired to Canada in 1986 to be with family. Following the death of Pamela in 1992, John met and married Mavis Solberg in 1994. They spent many happy years together on the Saanich Peninsula and in Arizona. Thanks to Dr. D. Morton for providing many years of care. Viewing to take place at First Memorial Chapel Services, 4725 Falaise Drive on Friday, January 11th, 4-6 pm with a memorial service to follow.
