John Edward Mirtle passed away on July 8, 2018 at his home in Victoria, B.C age, 82. Born in Calgary, Alberta on May 21, 1936, he leaves behind his loving wife, Anne, and is predeceased by his cherished first wife, Valerie, October 11, 2004.

Survived by: Son-John, Daughter-Susan (Stephen), Son-William (Heather and children, Matthew and Tom)

Step Son- David (Tanys and children, Sarah and Caitlyn), Step Daughter-Karen (and children, Paige and Chaise), Step Son-Paul (Shaunna and children, Sarah, Rebecca, Nicholas, William and Eric)

Brothers- Robert (Marion), Douglas (Lilly) and their families

Life Story: John will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather who will be much missed by family, friends, colleagues and the Calgary and Victoria musical community. John served 35 years with the Canadian Armed Services with the PPCLI and with the Naden Band (1974-1985). As a gifted musician, John continued to share his love of music history through writing and publishing music histories and discographies of note which chronicled Spike Jones, Billy May and the Naden Band.

Donations may be made to either the MS Society or the Richmond Hospital. The funeral will take place on July 18, 2018 at 2:00pm at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria
