CURTIS, Joyce Edith (nee Willett) October 24, 1923 -October 10, 2012 "Joy" was predeceased by husband Charlton (Chuck) and only daughter Kathleen. She was a proud mother to Robin, Chris, Ross, Jamie and Kerry, a loving grandmother to James, Eric, Brian, Geoffrey, Alexis, Ryan, John and Jenna and an adoring great-grandmother to George and Tillie. Born in Chester, England, in her teen years Joyce was an avid member of the scouting community. It was as a scouting leader that she met, and then married Chuck in early 1945. In 1952, Joyce and Chuck with sons Robin and Christopher moved to Shawnigan Lake on Vancouver Island where Chuck took a position as teacher and Joyce became a House Matron. She easily settled in to her new life in Canada, and became an active member of the Shawnigan community. While bringing up a growing family, Joyce also had various responsibilities at Shawnigan Lake School, Cliffside and Strathcona Lodge schools and then became the Psychometrist at Cedar Lodge Centre. After Chuck's death in 1984, Joyce turned to writing the history of her and Chuck's families. She moved to Ottawa, travelled to England to do genealogical research and enjoyed winter months in Florida before moving back to the Victoria area where she spent the last twenty years close to most of her family and grandchildren. Joyce was an active participant in the lives of her grandchildren and took great joy in their growth and accomplishments. She was an avid artist who loved to paint, and enjoyed the gardens and animals that were part of her family life. Always positive, Joyce made the most of life and the various situations dealt her. She will be missed by all her family. No service, by her request.
