Joyce Trace Obituary

TRACE, Joyce Lucille (nee Spilsbury) August 30, 1923 ~ September 6, 2011 It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Joyce, in her 88th year, passed away peacefully and gracefully at home on September 6, 2011. Joyce will be greatly missed and remembered by her family and friends. Predeceased by husband Tony of 58 years, brother Sid (Peggy) and granddaughter Kaycee. Survived by sister Ivy (Frank), brother Dave (Marion), children Steve (Verna), Russ (Terry), Brad (Linda), Margaret, Joan (Denis), Bev (Blair), Perry (Val), and many grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Joyce was born in Amulet, Saskatchewan and graduated as a registered nurse in Regina. Joyce met Tony in Victoria, BC as his nurse, as he recovered from a broken leg from World War II. They married and raised seven children. Joyce took up painting as a hobby, but it soon became evident that she was a very talented artist, particularly well known for her Dogwood and Arbutus paintings. Her beautiful artwork now decorates many homes and offices. Joyce was loved by all and will be sadly missed. A celebration of life to be held at 2:00pm September 14, at First Memorial Funeral Chapel 4725 Falaise Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Autistic Society of Canada. Special thanks to Hilda and Colleen for the outstanding care provided to Joyce. 636923

My thoughts are with all of you. Joyce was a very special lady, its been my pleasure to have known her, to have had nursing chats with her during my early career and shared a cup of coffee in recent years during my visits to Victoria. Her paintings have special spots in my home. Hugs to you all.

I asked Joyce's grandaughter Amy to take pictures of everyone. You can see her reflection in her Grandma's eyes.

Joyce's gentle love was shared with everyone she had contact with. I'm sure it will be missed, but remembered fondly by everyone. Rest in Peace Grandma Joyce.

I just wanted to send my condolences to the family. I am a home care worker for Bill and Laura and met Tony and Joyce when they came to visit. I have seen Joyces paintings at Bill's and the famous dogwood. I am lucky to have one of her cards of the dogwood. She was such a graceous and pleasant lady. I am sure she will be missed not only by her children but also Bill, Laura, Tracey and Pat. My thoughts are with you.
