SMITH, Leslie Alec February 17, 1927 - December 16, 2012 Les passed away peacefully at home with his children and his dog Ellie, by his side. Pre-deceased by Doris, dear wife of 60 years and survived by son Randy Smith, daughter Lynn Smith (Alastair Kerr). Les lived mostly on the prairies but time spent on the coast enticed him to move back with Doris when he retired, settling eventually in Chemainus. With a strong commitment to community Les was a member of many service groups, most notably The Shrine and Masonic Lodge where he enjoyed the hard work and camaraderie and valued the deep friendships. Les loved the piano and he was always ready to play on his own or with a band, most recently entertaining the residents at the Chemainus Health Care Centre. The family would like to thank the many friends who watched out for Dad: members of the Shrine, the folks at the Legion, the Rotary Club and his wonderful neighbours. Thanks also to Dr. Morris and the nurses at the Acute Care Center in Chemainus who were a tremendous support. And thanks to Marg Elliot for welcoming Ellie, Les's dog, into her home. A gathering in memory of Les will take place Saturday, January 5 at 1pm at the Legion in Chemainus. Flowers are gratefully declined. A donation in his name via the North Cowichan Shrine Club to the Shriners Hospital for Children would be welcome. Online condolences may be offered at www.hwwallacecbc.com "> www.hwwallacecbc.com
