MACLACHLAN, Colonel Malcolm Francis (1917 2012) B.A., B.Ed, O.B.E., M.E. Born Great Village, N.S., he was the son of Donald MacLachlan and Alberta (Layton) MacLachlan. Malcolm married Josephine Allen and their children are Janet, Donald and Duncan. He received his early schooling in Great Village and then attended Acadia University. In 1940 he proceeded overseas with the Cape Breton Highlanders and he served in Italy and Northwest Europe. Later he served as Commanding Officer of the Third Battalion Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry in Korea; Commanding Officer, Second Battalion, The Canadian Guards, Petawawa; on the directing staff of the British Army Staff College, Camberly, England; Director, Army Personnel, Canadian Army Headquarters; Chief of Staff, Western Army Command; Commander of the Alberta Area; Military; Advisor to the Canadian High Commisioner in New Delhi, India; in 1971, Director of Intelligence Services, Canadian Forces Headquarters in Ottawa. He received the Military Cross in 1944 and the Order of the British Empire in 1953. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Josephine and is survived by his children, Janet, Donald and Duncan, and his sister Donalda Nelson of Truro N.S.
