Merle Barwis Obituary

Merle was born December 23, 1900 and slipped quietly away November 22, 2014 at the Priory Hospital. Merle was the oldest living Canadian and will be missed by all her family. A special thank you to the staff at the Priory, who gave her such loving care.

I have won a trophy three times now from the Sooke Fair that was donated in her family's name. I have always admired it with pride, not why I have it, but because of where it came from. My condolences to the Barwis family.

I was a caregiver to Merle from 2004 to 2008 at Eagle's Bluff & the Priory. I have fond memories of her resilient spirit & her love of porridge, mashed potatoes & beer! She was an inspiration to us all.
