MARTIN, Ron Born: March 26, 1935 Died: March 20, 2013 Ron Martin, 77, died at his home in Cambria, California, on March 20, 2013, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. With him at his side during this journey was his wife, Jeanne, who also was helped tremendously by his daughter, Terry, and her husband, Billy, and his step-daughter, Michelle. Ron was born in Sterco, Alberta, the eldest son of the late Frank and Florence Martin. He enjoyed his position as the "oldest" brother in a large family. He spent his early years in Victoria and, wherever he travelled the remainder of his life, the city always remained home in his heart. Ron grew and thrived, making countless friends and memories including schooling with the Brothers at St. Louis College and endless time spent at the ball parks, especially Royal Athletic in Victoria. When he was in his 20's Ron, who was a life-long dreamer, saw a different path ahead for him and he moved his young family to California. He loved California and soon was involved in all facets of his life there raising their family. He was a long time real estate agent, had a passion for horses and was always there as an amazing Dad, husband, brother and friend. His life took many roads, but Ron remained steadfast to his love of family first. He was a gentle, quiet man with a wonderful sense of humour that kept him making jokes to the last. He was our gift. Ron was predeceased by his son, Daryl, and his sister, Marina. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Jeanne; his sons Dwaine and Kevin; his daughter, Terry, and son-in-law, Billy, his step-son Kevin and his step-daughter Michelle. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Crystal, Courtney, Jaysen, Trevor, Thara and Karrisa as well as numerous great-grandchildren. An amazing big brother, he also leaves behind sisters Elaine; Pat; and Penny and brothers Bob; John; and Rick as well as their spouses. Ron also made and kept many life-long friends who also mourn his passing. Victoria was always home in Ron's heart and we have brought him home to rest with our family. The family will be having a graveside service at Hatley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2050 Sooke Road at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday April 27th, 2013. Following this interment service, there will be a Celebration of Life with friends and family commencing at 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm at the Bert Richmond Building at Lambrick Park off of Felthom Road in Saanich. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal... Love leaves a memory no one can steal
