HOPWO, Roy 1921 - 2012 Roy passed away December 19, 2012 in Cowichan District Hospital. Predeceased by wife Mary in 1987 and survived by partner Ruth Hoy, his children Lawrence (Wendy), Dorothy (Jesse), Diana (Brian), Arlene, Wallace (Wanda), Lorraine (Don), Leroy (Donna) numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, siblings Penny, Joan, Poppy, Henrietta, Muriel, Oswald and Edward. A pioneer of Chemainus, Roy was born in Cowichan Station B.C., eldest of nine children and raised on a potato farm in Koksilah B.C. He married Mary in 1939 and moved to Chemainus in 1946. He was employed by MacMillan & Bloedel in the Outside Boom Division as a boom man, boat man, lead hand retiring after 40 years in 1981. Moving to Scotchtown (Chemainus) in 1950, with the help of son Larry and neighbor Eldon Odell, Roy built the family home. Roy enjoyed the outdoors, hunting in local areas with his sons, past residents Ning and Ed Chang, Hugo Hagg, and Alfred Schiller; fishing in his red and blue boat with Mary and camping with their family. Being an avid gardener Roy also discovered that growing grapes and the art of wine making was a hobby that proved to be very rewarding.
