Stockwell Day Obituary

DAY, Stockwell (Sr.) Passed away in Ladysmith, B.C. February 6, 2005. Born Montreal August 7th 1925. Educated at Selwyn House Montreal, Bishop's College School and Bishop's University College School, Lennoxville, Quebec. Wartime service as a sub lieutenant, R.C.N.V.R in North Atlantic. 20 years with Zellers retiring as vice president, store management. Moved to Metchosin on Vancouver Island where he enjoyed success in real estate. Taught business at Malaspina College and spent eight seasons deep sea salmon fishing and served as vice president of Pacific Troller's Assn. In 1972 ran as the Social Credit candidate against Tommy Douglas in Nanaimo with predictable results. Moved to Hinton Alberta in 1977 where with his family and late brother Brigham bought and operated the Overlander Lodge converting the property into a small community with Alberta's first bare land condominium project. Then moved to Grand Prairie. In the fall of 2002 moved to Ladysmith B.C. on Vancouver Island. Survived by his adored wife of 56 years Gwendolyn (Gilbert) and daughters Deborah (Lamphier), Abigail (Peters) and Rebecca (Reynolds) and sons Stockwell, Nicholas and Matthew, eighteen grandchildren and ten great grand-children. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 8th at I pm at St. John's AnglicanCatholic Church, Victoria, B.C. 980 Falmouth Rd. Full burial service to follow in Montreal, P.Q.
