Passed away peacefully on July 17, 2012, in Port Alberni, at the age of 74 years.
He was predeceased by his father Walter, son Kelly and brother Bob. He is survived by Betty, his loving wife of 50 years and son Terry (Mitsuyo), daughter Juli (Daryl) Jones, daughter-in-law Bev Argotow and grandsons, Matthew and Joshua. Also survived by his mother Helen, sisters; Helen (John) Ozeroff, Nettie (Bill) Soukeroff, Shirley (Ernie) Pozney and sister-in-law Susan Argotoff, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Walter came to the Alberni Valley at the age of 15, along with his father, to work on the construction of the Pulp Mill. Soon after, he was offered a job as a Longshoreman, which he worked at for over 42 years. He met and married Betty in the early 60's and in 1970, the family bought a farm. Walter became a delivery driver for Taylor's Flowers and eventually took over the bookkeeping. Walter would spend his leisure time working on the farm with his tractor and taking part in his lifelong love of hockey, whether playing the game himself, acting as a hockey scout, or running conditioning camps for up and coming promising hockey players.
Walter was a hard-working, loving and dedicated husband, father and member of the community. He will always be loved and remembered by his family and friends as a kind, gentle and humourous man.
May God accept his soul into His heavenly kingdom and may he rest in peace.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00PM, Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the Bavarian Centre, 3031 - 4th Ave., Port Alberni.
