FAWCETT, Leslie (Les) 1926 - 2014 Les Fawcett passed away peacefully in Victoria on February 28, with his family at his side. Les was born in Middlesbrough, England, in 1926, the fourth of eleven children. In 1952, he married the love of his life, Sheila, and they have been together ever since. Les and Sheila had two sons Ian and John. The family immigrated to Canada in 1967. After short stays in Victoria, Powell River and Cranbrook, they made their home in Nanaimo, where Les and Sheila continued to live until they moved into a seniors' residence in Victoria last year. Les worked as a high-voltage cable splicer, specialist work which enabled him to travel to many places around the country, providing safe power supply to many hospitals, institutions, municipalities and industrial sites. He concluded his career by providing safety training to new cable splicers. Les is survived by his wife Sheila, his son Ian, daughter-in-law Sandra and grandson Jesse. His son John passed away in 1995. He is also survived by his brothers Len and Geoff, and brother-in-law Col, as well as many nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren. Les lived a long, happy and rewarding life, well-loved by his family and friends, and well-respected by his colleagues. We will all miss him a great deal, but we will also continue to carry him with us in our hearts. A memorial service to celebrate Les' life will be held at First Memorial Chapel, 1155 Fort Street, Victoria on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the A.L.S. Society or the Arthritis Society.
