Effie was born in Comox, BC on September 20, 1917. She passed away peacefully on the morning of February 21, 2012 at the age of 94.

Effie was predeceased by her husband, James, her parents, her brothers David and Patrick, and her sister Nancy. Effie leaves behind her three children, Gordon (Judy), Judy (Paul), David (Margaret), seven grandchildren and three great granddaughters.

After completing Normal School in Vancouver, Effie started what was to become a beloved career in teaching at the age of 18 on Quadra Island. From there she taught in Comox and then moved to the mainland where she taught with the Burnaby School District. Effie proudly obtained her Bachelor of Education from UBC as a mature student.

Effie retired to Vancouver Island in 1979 where she enjoyed golfing, quilting, playing bridge, gardening and volunteering with many organizations.

Effie touched the lives of all who met her and will be sadly missed by her loving family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held at Knox United Church in Parksville, BC on March 10th at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to a charity of your choice.
