Lisa SIMPSON Obituary

SIMPSON, Lisa Maureen July 9, 1965 February 29, 2012 Lisa passed away peacefully on Feb. 29, 2012 after a lengthy and inspirational battle. First diagnosed with breast cancer nine years ago she defined for us all the meaning of courage and strength, and showed a tenacious will to live. Lisa is predeceased by her newborn son Justin and will be forever missed by her adored son Adam Brewster, parents Ron and Sheila Simpson, brothers Craig (Jodi) and Daryl (Janet) and nieces and nephews Brody, Ava, Sophia and Marco. Lisa was an incredibly proud mother, and Adam was the light of her life. Her will to live was rooted in her desire to see Adam continue to grow and mature. It is comforting to know that Adam has inherited many of Lisa's traits, as exhibited by his strength in recent months. Lisa was surrounded in life, as at the end of her journey, by a dedicated and loving group of friends. Her circle of friends was wide and deep, and was of profound importance to Lisa. And while her friends were important to Lisa, we know that Lisa also played an important role in their lives. Whether it was opening her home to a fellow chemo patient who needed respite, or offering counsel and support to a friend in need, Lisa was always there for her friends. And they were there for her. While there are simply too many to list, we know that Lisa's memory lives on within you. Lisa was always a great communicator, and following her graduation from Broadcast Journalism at BCIT embarked on a successful and fulfilling career in radio and television journalism with the CBC in Saskatchewan and Vancouver, followed by a career in communications with the Ministry of Health. Following her initial cancer diagnosis, Lisa used her communication skills to instrumentally assist in the creation of the BreastCancerNowWhat.org website. Lisa's family and friends wish to express their sincere gratitude to all the staff of B.C. Cancer Victoria, and especially her chemo nurses and Dr. N McPherson, her home care nurse Andrea and the devoted staff of the Royal Jubilee Hospice where she spent her final weeks. Lisa loved giving and receiving flowers to honour her life please consider the gift of a bouquet to someone you love in her memory, or a donation to the Victoria Hospice Foundation. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday March 9th at 2pm at St. Peters Anglican Church at 3939 St. Peters Road (off Quadra). I only learned of Lisa's death today and I am in shock. We became close friends while working together at CBC Saskatoon. And only the other day, I was going through photos of a great trip we took together to West Edmonton Mall over one Easter holiday. Now, only too late, I not only mourn the fact that we didn't stay in closer touch, but the fact that it is no longer possible to hear her joyful voice expressing all that is going on in her life. My deepest sympathies to Adam - who was the joy of her life - and to her family and friends who provided such deep support.

Many parents at Ecole Margaret Jenkins School knew Lisa and admired her incredible strength and love of life. Adam is very fortunate to have inherited so many of her strong qualities. In Lisa's memory, a gift of books will be donated to the
EMJS school library from the Parent Advisory Committee.

Lisa's Song:

when she's gone
ends a strong song
but then a beatiful tune
as strong as her will
blooms like a daffodil

shines like the moon
when she's gone.
before we move on
we can hear her strong song
we respond

"she's taken too soon!"
we look through our tears,
her tune in our ears
the strong song she wrote
a melody of moments
- moments like notes -
like lumps in our throats

in our eyes we have tears
for the lack of her years
she is held so dear
she is brought so near

when she's gone
we try to be strong
as strong as her will...
but then a beautiful tune
as strong as her will
blooms like a daffodil
shines like the moon

makes lumps in our throats
and tears in our eyes
her strong song floats by
like a melody of moments
- moments like notes -
a young daughters smile
a wedding in white

when she's gone
we can't quite move on
her strong song
her beatiful tune
as strong as her will
blooms like a daffodill

her strong song goes on
God sings along
she smiles as she's singing
watching us from above
and sending her love
which we see every spring
that the daffodils bring

her love's in her song
which we hear every year
as we wait for the spring
that the daffodils bring

It was a privilege to know Lisa and work with her. Perhaps the pain of being separated from Adam will be tempered by being reunited with her beloved Justin. Rest in peace, Lisa.

What a beautiful picture of Lisa. I remember working with Lisa at the Ministry of Health Communications and our girl talks were almost daily. She was one of the easiest people to sit and chat with. Life just doesnt seem fair sometimes but I do believe she is in heaven looking down on her precious son. Lisa....I will remember you always.

Ron and Sheila - My deepest sympathy to you and your family. My work association with you in Victoria goes back almost 40 years but you were a friend then and I remember hearing you speak of your children with love. Look to each other and your family and friends - they are there for you. Lisa was obviously loved by all and will always be remembered for that. Be at peace.

My husband, Art and I, had the pleasure of working with Lisa many years ago.
A lot of people worked at, and then moved on from, the small CBC station in Saskatoon. Some of their names escape us, but we'll always remember Lisa. She was a wonderful colleague, kind, friendly and a joy to know.
We're saddened by the news of her passing.
We pray that God will comfort your hearts at this time as you cherish the wonderful memories.
