UNDERWOOD, Peter James b. April 7, 1926, Medicine Hat, Alberta, d. April 10, 2012, Victoria, B.C. Peter grew up in Fernwood and as a boy sang in the Christ Church Cathedral choir. After studies in Victoria and Vancouver, his first teaching position was in Nakusp. Peter met Dorothy while bicycling in Europe in the early '50s. He taught in London before returning home to teach English and Drama at Oak Bay High from 1956 to 1987. In retirement Peter could be found with an oil brush and canvas in front of him, or shovel in hand as he worked to create his prized garden which he loved to share with whoever wandered by. He volunteered at Government House as a docent, followed by many enjoyable years in the gardens as an active member of The Friends of Government House Garden Society ("Peter's Rock" and the Lewisia Wall). Peter lost his only brother Jack with the sinking of the HMCS Margaree in 1940 and was predeceased by his sister Jean in 2004. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, his seven children and his grandchildren. There will be a gathering to remember Peter this summer. No flowers please. 653556
