THIEL, Ida (nee Braach) Passed away in the early evening of December, 30, 2012 in the gentle embrace of her family. Heartbroken and grieving are her beloved husband, Gerhard, children, Carmen and Gary (Karen), grandsons, Lucas and Carson, brother, Werner and family and friends both in Canada and Germany. Born to Paul and Klara Braach in Nieder Eschbach, Germany, on December 31, 1931, Ida was the only girl in a family with six brothers. In 1953 Ida immigrated to Canada, and was joined within months by her fiancé and the love of her life, Gerhard (Gary) Thiel. They were married in Calgary, Alberta, and their daughter, Carmen Ida, was born in 1954. Ida and Gary then moved to BC where their son, Gary Paul, was born in 1958. Ida was the most supportive, kind and compassionate wife, mother and Oma that any family could hope to have. Deep, strong, family ties were nurtured daily by Mom who always reminded us that love conquers all. Over the years Ida had careers in nursing, hairdressing and as a care aid at Glendale Hospital and other care homes in Victoria. In addition to a busy family life and work, Gary and Ida always found time to host their many friends and family. Their sense of adventure resulted in much travel, including a sailing trip to Mexico, numerous cruises and many trips to their homeland to visit their large extended family. Ida was renowned for her exquisite cakes and wonderful cooking skills. It is with deepest sadness that we say goodbye to our precious, beautiful Ida who will live on in our hearts and memories. A celebration of life will be held on Wed., January 9, 2013 @ 2:00 pm at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1155 Fort St., Victoria. In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian National Institute for the Blind welcomed.
