VOS, Marius Fas May 21, 1930 – December 9, 2012 Opa, Father, Brother, Uncle and Friend. Survived by: children Diana Pollock (Bruce), John, and Peter (Shellayne) and their mother Joanne, grandchildren Cameron, Scott and Rory Pollock and Alex and Molly Vos; siblings Nel (Lou), Kees (Ann), Bas (Toni), Daan (Gilberte) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada and Holland. One of seven children, Marius was born in Drongelen, The Netherlands. His family's farmhouse was occupied during the war. His parents adopted a Jewish infant in 1942, all during a time that figured prominently in his life. He followed his older brothers to northern Alberta in 1952 where he had many interesting jobs including driving trucks, farming and cooking on tugboats. Deciding to go to university Marius earned a degree in Civil Engineering from the U of A in 1963. His career took him many places including Botswana, Holland and finally Vancouver Island where he made his home for the last 32 years. He was a proud Canadian with a pragmatic nature. He could fix anything and would help anyone in need. Marius was not afraid of driving long distances, often without a stop. His meatball soup, flank steaks and pancakes were legendary as were his clogs which he wore until the end. We will miss him but are comforted in the knowledge that his passing was quick. A gathering of family and friends is planned for sometime in 2013, please contact mariusfvos@gmail.com"> mariusfvos@gmail.com to offer condolences or for information on the gathering.
