CRIPPS, Wilfred "Dale" June 13, 1929 - May 12, 2013 It is with a deep sadness that our family announces the passing of our Father (Grandfather, Brother and Friend), Dale Cripps. Dad passed peacefully at home, after a valiant effort to overcome his cancer. In his final stages, he was showered with the presence of his loving children, grandchildren and friends, and the experience for Dad and those around him, was one of profound love. Born and raised in Vancouver, Dad graduated from UBC with a degree in Engineering at the age of 21. He had a remarkable career spanning over 50 years involving the Kemano project, Arrow lake dam, Port Mann bridge, Project Engineer on the Knight St. Bridge, and Cassiar Connector, as well as key roles in the Coquihalla and Sea to Sky highways. He loved his work, and in the twilight of his career, spent considerable time in China, with SNC Lavalin instructing and supervising highway design and construction. Dad was active in numerous organizations throughout his life, such as Sea Scouts, West Vancouver Band, North Shore Light Opera, and after settling in Victoria, Sailboat Racing at Royal Victoria Yacht Club, Rotary Club, Saanich Stroke Club, and most recently was on the board of directors at the Palm Court (light) Orchestra. His impact on those around him was one of kindness, enthusiasm and generosity, and to his Children, passed on his passion for music, creativity, leadership, and his love of the water. Pre-deceased by his wife Beverley (nee Mains) of 53 years, in 2006, Dad is survived by his brother Michael (Diane), his children Roy, Gerry (Sue), Shari, David (Tina), and his grandchildren Shawna, Kyla, Sara, Gaelen, Brendon, Katelyn and Chaya. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and care aids that helped us keep Dad at his home overlooking the water, to live out the last part of his life with comfort and dignity. We would also like to thank his many friends and neighbors, especially Anne, Laura, Jane, Meike and Alex, for their incredible support. A celebration of Dad's life will be held at First Memorial, 4725 Falaise drive in Saanich (Royal Oak area) at 2:00 PM Friday, May 24th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dale's name to the Saanich Peninsula Stroke recovery Branch, or the Palm Court light Orchestra.
