Grayson HAJASH Obituary

HAJASH, Grayson Michael "Mickey" March 27, 2015 passed peacefully after a short illness. Born in Hungary, he arrived with his parents in southwest Saskatchewan in 1921. A hard life on the Prairies was spent mainly on the family farm near Brooks, Alberta. A strong student and natural athlete he was the first of his family to attend the University of Alberta where he graduated with an Engineering Degree in 1947. Employed with the Exxon Mobile Group all of his career, he distinguished himself as a geophysicist in Edmonton, Houston, London, New York and Iraq. He married Donna Anne Dowser of Edmonton and they had two children. Mickey and Donna became legendary in Victoria with their philanthropy where they retired. Mickey is survived by his wife Donna, his daughter Trish, son David and three grandsons. A long time member of the Rotary Club of Victoria and the United Way Board of Directors, Mickey was incredibly generous in supporting worthy causes, including five scholarships for Brooks High School students to attend university. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1st, 2015 at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.

I remember when Grayson, Dave & I took their little for a walk: Grayson being 81 yrs old, me being much younger; I was huffing and puffing to keep up with Grayson thinking how wonderful it was to have a man at this age able to walk like a 30 year old. I was truly amazed.

Mickey was a "special" person-one with a big heart and a willing helper wherever there was a need.
He was a rock-solid Rotarian and it was a pleasure getting to know him thru Rotary.
He will be missed by all who knew him-my condolences to you and the family, Donna.
