Margaret Rempel Obituary

Age 88 of Sidney, BC. Born in Weymouth, NS, Jan 31 1928, third daughter of Lloyd Haliburton Potter and Jennie Myrtle (nee Henderson). Predeceased by husband Gordon Robert Rempel (2003) and son Edward (1993). Survived by daughters Dianna Gravel (Julien), Laura Rempel, Emily Trim (Lawrence) and Victoria Rempel; grandchildren Jeannine Fillmore, Marc Gravel, Colleen Trim, and Tristan Trim; and great grandchildren Louis, Rémi and Corwin.

Margaret Louise grew up in Halifax, NS, where she attended the Sacred Heart Convent, Queen Elizabeth High, and Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. She was employed by the Halifax Herald, Mail Star, Bank of Montreal, CIBC, and the Salvation Army. After marrying Bob in 1953, she was a busy Navy wife. Poetry was her great passion. She belonged to the Canadian Poetry Society and contributed to local papers and magazines from age eleven onward. She was presented with the Centennial Poetry Award in 1967 by the lieutenant governor, and gave readings on CBC and other radio stations. She enjoyed holiday gift giving, her pets, crosswords, reading, singing in the church choir and until her last weeks, playing the piano by ear.

The staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital Residential Care are to be commended for their compassionate and diligent care. Special thanks to Dr. Eric George. Internment at Holy Trinity Anglican Church cemetery in North Saanich at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.

I was given a hand-written book of Margaret's poetry she had given to someone named, "Beverley". This book has traveled with me across Canada and to Wales, UK, where I lived for several years before returning back to Victoria. I now live in Cranbrook with my Welsh husband. I have treasured this book so much, but if family of Margaret's would like to contact me, please feel free to do so. Mrs. Deborah J. Williams

She was my great aunt. I loved her very much she was a special soul that is now somewhere having a good time. Drinking a tea and reading puppet shows a loud. Highly intuitive clairvoyant and spiritual she always expressed openness about the spirit world. She is roaming around us all.
Love you all
