Lorne will be missed, and especially Missa. I still remember that first lesson in "Cedar brush-making" at Missa many years ago - He said " remember you do not find the rock , the rock finds you!" typical the Zen in Lorne. He was such a wonderful, kind, thinking teacher. I will miss the interesting conversations we had while having lunch at restaurants all over Victoria. Good Bye dear friend.

Very saddened to hear of the death of Lorne Loomer, and thta he will not be at Missa this summer as always, yet thiking of all the Missa people he is perhaps the one who wil always be there his spirit is in the salt air and cedar, the soft air an the colours of the beautiful coast, seems that for Lorne stepping across into the universe of peace was easy becaues he was already there

My condolences to the people lucky enough to be in the family of Lorne Loomer. I took his class several times at MISSA and through his quiet teaching, he made an "ordinary" class experience extraordinary. In ways I cannot explain the class was deeply profound and healing. A small card from him still graces my mantelpiece. Such a special man.

It my pleasure to meet Lorne at MISSA a number of years ago. He was always thoughtful and respectful in the way he acted and spoke. I have many fond memories of our conversations. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I met Lorne, shortly after his stroke. We were both taking brush making and mark making with Jack Wiise. It was after his stroke and he was low keyed, but enthusiastic and involved, though he had just gotten out of the hospital. We met many times more over the years when I came out to Metchosin. Lorne was always there, always my best friend. He called me and any of the friends I brought along with me, "The Calgary Girls" We exchanged Christmas cards every year, and I have kept all of his.
Not this year.
I will miss him and send my love to his family.
He was a courageous and lovely man on so many levels.

I took a Brush Stroke class for this Amazing human being and it will be with me as a most treasured experience for the rest of my days! May he rest in Peace and may his family know how much he was Respected and loved by all who were Blessed to share time with him.

I will miss Lorne at MISSA. His class was the best weekend class I have taken there. Such a kind and thoughtful man, who made everyone feel like an artist.

My sincere condolences Lise-Lotte and Annelise for your loss. I worked with your Dad for a few years at McGill & Orme Pharmacy and he was a wonderful and respected Pharmacist as well as a respected Artist and such a great person. He was such a great "boss" to work with and taught me so much. He was always so proud of you girls - and had such a deep love for your Mom as well - he loved his family so much. I remember when you girls were getting a little older and he asked me for my thoughts and recommendation on a good restaurant to take the family but he wanted to go somewhere a step up from the typical family-type of restaurants to make you both feel a little "grown up". I suggested the Keg to him and I do believe you all frequented the Keg a few times as you all loved it. Just a little memory that popped into my head! I am so very sorry for your loss but do know your Mum & Dad are watching over you all with such love and pride. They will be with you forever in spirit.

He was an incredible friend, mentor, artist and teacher for me. I will never forget our first encounter at Pearson College where he introduced me to his style of painting and made me believe that I could paint, too. He taught me watercolors, how to make a cedar brush, and brush exploration. He always encouraged me to make big brush strokes and then watch the magic happen the brush wisdom delivered to the paper canvas. We spent many hours painting together, talking and sharing our philosophies of life.
Lorne became a part of my family. I will miss him greatly and will cherish always our time together.
My heart goes out to Lise-Lotte, Anne-Lise and their families. My thoughts and prayers are always with you.

Anne-Lise, Lise-Lotte and family--I was very saddened to hear about your Dad's passing, and wish to express my (and my whole family's) heartfelt sympathy. He had such a wonderful spirit, and I remember fondly the times spent at your house and on Saltspring with your family. Your dad was a model and aspiration for a meaningful life of accomplishment, but also of kindness, grace and humour. I remember he had such a great laugh! I wish you and your family comfort during this time, and regret that I can't attend his service in person.

Simply a kind, lovable man. I am devastated to hear of his passing as his presence at our shop (with Elisabeth) was always a ray of sunshine in our day. I feel lucky to have known him the little that I did and can only imagine how he enriched the lives of the people close to him. Such a good person. Your Dad (and your Mum) were always kind and welcoming whenever any of us just showed up out of the blue at your house. Lorne's place in the history of the Olympic Games is assured. It is said of the Melbourne Canadian Four that never before or since has there been so much open water between the winning shell and the boat in second place.
His place in the hearts of the generation of rowers he encouraged, mentored, and coached is also assured.
We will all miss his self deprecating sense of humour and his dry wit.
Our hearts go out to Anne-Lise, Lise-Lotte, and the other members of the family for this sad loss.

When Lorne was in high school he would not go canoeing with me.He was bothered by the instability of the canoe,and I'm not sure whether he was a swimmer.Thus it was a great surprise to have him opt for sculling in his first year at UBC. I have an original photo card of the gold medal 4's

Lorne was such a special member of our Nelson High School class of 1954. He was a leader in so many ways - in athletics, scholarship and the arts. Above all, he was loved for his warmth, his kindness and thoughtfulness to others. He will be greatly missed by us all.
