James Gerald Hester

James Gerald Hester, 77, of Mount Hope, went to be with Jesus on March 7, 2014.
Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m., March 10, 2014, with the funeral at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home, Moulton. Ala.
Burial will be at the Mount Hope Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean Smith Hester; his daughter, Donna Flannagan (Ken); son, Mark Hester (Damaris); grandsons, Joshua McGuire (Jana), Benjamin McGuire (Haley), Brett Black (Leighann); great-grandchidren, Owen and Ezekiel McGuire, Kaelyn and Bailee Black; one brother, Freddie Hester, Tuscumbia; and one sister, Pearline McMurtrey, Southside.
He is preceded in death by his brotheres, Nathan Hester, Nelson Hester and Homer Hester.
Gerald Grew up on Hawk Pride Mountain and graduated from Cherokee High School. Throughout this life he entertained his children and grandchildren with stories from life on the mountain.
He was a member of Mount Hope Baptist Church where he served as a deacon until he became disabled and was no longer able to attend regularly. Gerald was a retired farmer. He enjoyed working with cattle and rolling hay.
He loved his family and was especially fond of his nieces and nephews. His grandsons and later his great-grandchildren were a source of pride.
Officiating the service are Brother Mike Boon and grandsons, Joshua and Benjamin McGuire.
Pall bearers are Andy Hester, Brett Black, Dan Hester, Doug Hester, Rickey McMurtrey, Rnady McMurtrey, Louie Smith and Richard Smith.
Honorary pall bearers are Elwyn Stephenson, Billy Oswalt, Jimmy McKee and Harold Porter.
