Larry M. Beasley Sr.

Larry Maddox Beasley, Sr., age 69, of Killen, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2012, at Elkins Funeral Home in Florence, with Reverend Bryan McIntyre and Reverend Mike Pope officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation prior to the services on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. The family will attend a private graveside service and internment on Friday afternoon at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Beasley was born September 3, 1942, in Athens. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Lawson and Mildred Beasley and an infant daughter. During his four years of service in the U.S. Navy, he saw action at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Cuban missile crisis. He began and ended his career with Boeing, working in the space program building the International Space Station. Throughout his career, he was also employed by Ford Motor Company and the Army Corps of Engineers.

Mr. Beasley was a faithful Christian and a long-time member of Florence First United Methodist Church. During his nine-month battle with cancer, his devout faith was reflected in his continual prayer for the well-being of others. He will be lovingly remembered for his affection for family and friends, his affinity for craftsmanship and creative problem solving and his affable sense of humor.

Mr. Beasley was an adoring husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Dawn Blacklidge Beasley; and his three sons, Larry Maddox Beasley Jr., of Dallas, Texas, John Timothy Beasley (Missy), of Birmingham, and David Reid Beasley, of Killen; and five grandchildren, Brittani, Madison, Seth, Brook and Austin. He is also survived by his brother, John Lawson Beasley Jr., of Decatur; sister, Gloria Ann Faulkner, of Huntsville; one niece, five nephews and countless friends.
