Walter Amos Baskins was born July 27, 1915, and passed away Monday, July 7, 2008, at the age of 92 years and 20 days after an extended illness.
Mr. Baskins was a member of Rhodesville Methodist Church, but later attended Central Heights Baptist Church with his son.
In his early years, he was a farmer and an avid coon hunter. He was retired from the Lauderdale County Highway Department. He truly enjoyed tending to his beautiful flowers until he became ill.
Mr. Baskins was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Eunice Woods Baskins; an infant daughter, Doris Ann; a granddaughter, Michelle Myhan; and a great-grandson, Dylan Chatwood. He was the son of the late Charlie and Reedie Baskins. Also preceding Mr. Baskins in death were his sisters, Nellie Wylie, Ethel Bevis, Stella Orr, Pauline Fowlkes, Ossie McKelvey, Christine Wilbanks, and his brothers, Edward, Ade and Doyle Baskins.
Surviving Mr. Baskins are his children, Margaret Earline Bretherick (Dennis), Mary "Tootsie" Myhan (Jimmy), Douglas Baskins (Janice), Tommy Baskins (Sandra), Johnny Baskins (Judy) and Kenny Baskins (Sheri). His surviving grandchildren are Brenda Broadfoot (Barry), Cindy Hood (Lance), Jennice Crowell (Lane), Renae Baskins, Janice Cole (Joel), Jason Baskins (Lynda), John Baskins (Amber), Jonathon Baskins, Daniel Baskins and Dennison Bretherick (Candice), and 16 great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to Sissy Montgomery, whose loving kindness while she cared for our daddy and pawpaw will be remembered for many years to come.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Morrison Funeral Home, of Central Heights, with the funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at Central Heights Baptist Church, with Brother Donnie McDaniel officiating. The body will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Barry Broadfoot, Lance Hood, Jason Baskins, Jonathon Baskins, Joel Cole, Lane Crowell and Ethan Broadfoot. Honorary bearers will be John Baskins, Daniel Baskins, Steve Reynolds and Larry Rich.
