Wilhelmina G. Brooks
Wilhelmina Gray Brooks, age 82, of Florence, Ala., died at her home Aug. 28, 2013, following an extended illness.
She was a faithful and long time member of the Glendale Church of Christ.
Wilhelmina Gray Brooks was a loving, Godly wife, mother, grandmother, friend and Christian example to all who knew her. She loved God and lived her life glorifying Him in the way she lived her life. Proverbs 31 teaches us the traits of a virtuous woman, and her life truly exemplified all these traits. Her kindness, compassion and love will be remembered always, not only by her husband, four children, 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, but also by a host of friends and other family members. She was truly a great woman, and, as Proverbs 31 says, "Her worth is far above jewels."
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Zetha Gray; brother, Denny Gray; and son-in-law, Gerald Jackson.
She is survived by her loving and faithful husband, William D. "Bill" Brooks Jr.; son, Dennis Brooks (Debra); daughters, Charlotte Jackson Rogers (Allen), LaDelle Brooks Willis (Buddy) and Patricia Lynn Huffaker (Stanley); sister, Sue Gray Thomas; grandchildren, Lynn Jackson Grigsby (Todd), Douglas Ray Jackson (Mitzi), Keith Jackson (Brandi), Cheryl Johnston Souther (Will), Scott Johnston (Bridget), Michael Huffaker (Kristen), Melissa Huffaker Mosley (Derrick), Brooke Huffaker Dobbins (Michael), Katie Huffaker, Matt Brooks (Mitzi), Leann Brooks Burgess (Dan), Drew Brooks (Monika); great-grandchildren, Evan Grigsby, Olivia Jackson, Brooks Jackson, Jace Jackson, Jolie Jackson, Carly Souther, Dylan Johnston, Trey Johnston, Brady Johnston, Belle Huffaker, Maggie Huffaker, Jill Huffaker, Seth Mosley, Luke Mosley, Sawyer Mosley, Sydney Brooks, William Brooks, Ava Burgess, Samantha Burgess, Nora Burgess, Abigail Brooks and Ella Jo Brooks.
Visitation will be at Greenview Funeral Home, Florence, Ala., today from 10 a.m. to noon. The funeral service will follow at noon. Ministers will be Robert Huffaker and Joel Caudle. Congregational singing will be led by her grandson, Doug Jackson. Burial will be in the Greenview Cemetery following the service.
Pallbearers will be Lonny Harbin, nephew, and grandsons, Keith Jackson, Scott Johnston, Michael Huffaker, Matt Brooks and Drew Brooks. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons-in-law, Todd Grigsby, Will Souther, Derrick Mosley, Michael Dobbins and Dan Burgess.
We wish to thank Dr. David Bachofer, Alacare and all those who have provided loving care during her illness. We would like to issue a very heartfelt thanks to her special caregivers, Lisa Grossheim and Sue Mitchell. Your kindness, patience and loving care will never be forgotten.
