William Rex Adams, age 55, of Florence, Ala., died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at his home after an extended illness. His visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Morrison Funeral Home, Central Heights/Florence. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home chapel, with Brother Wayne Fleming officiating. Interment will follow in White's Creek Cemetery.
Rex was a loving husband of 21 years, as well as a loving father and grandfather. He was a devoted Alabama fan and a good friend to all who knew him. He was a graduate of Sheffield High School and attended Northwest-Shoals Community College for two years. Mr. Adams was a salesman and carpet installer for The Carpet Shack for several years. He was preceded in death by his father, Willard F. Adams; brother, Edward Adams; and granddaughter, Amber Grace Benson.
Survivors include his wife, Mackie Adams, of Florence; mother, Nancy Adams, of Florence; daughter, Tara Adams Enlow and husband, Rod, of Florence; sons, Bradley Rex Adams, of Sheffield, Jared Russell Adams and wife, Amy, of Florence; daughter, Michelle Smith and husband, Chris, of Savannah, Tenn.; son, Kenny Benson and wife, Licia, of Waterloo, Ala.; daughter, Tina Bevis and husband, Lonnie, of Florence; son, Chris Benson and wife, Gidgett, of Waterloo; grandchildren, Breanna, Taylor, Austin, Dale, Rod Jr., Sydney, Cody, Jessica, Courtney, Wade, Andrew, Blake, Kendall and Sierra; grandchildren of the heart, Dylon and Skyler; brother, Jerry Adams and wife, Gobi, of Muscle Shoals; sisters, Sandy Brewer and husband, Bobby, of Florence, Carolyn Gilbert and husband, Barry, of Florence, and Robbie Carroll and husband, Ralph, of Destin, Fla.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Earl Rutledge, Rick Harrison, Eddie Allison, Keith Brewer, Chris Smith and Lonnie Bevis. Honorary pallbearers include Bobby Brewer, Bill Swinea and Larry Crunk.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Tennessee Valley Hospice for their loving and excellent care received by our loved one. Thanks to Courtney, Wanda, Holly, Nichole, Jason Atkins and Brother Glenn. Also, special thanks to daughter Michelle Smith for her extra special care of Rex during his illness.
