David Alan Blackwell died in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the age of 66, on March 19, 2014. His funeral was on March 21, 2014. His burial was at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military rites conducted.

David was born in Sheffield on Jan. 29, 1948. He was the youngest of the four children of Maurice Blackwell and Sara Herrin Blackwell. David graduated from Sheffield High School and then attended the University of North Alabama. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in May 1967 for four years and during this period completed a tour in Vietnam.
David married Mary Walker in 1970. After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, David entered the University of Alabama. He graduated with a business degree. David went to work immediately for TVA and retired after 33 years.
David is survived by his wife, Mary, of 44 years and son, Alan Blackwell (Cindy); grandsons, Kyle and Jacob; and daughter, Sara Ann McNally (Dan) and grandson, Joseph. In addition, he is survived by his brothers, John (Elba Lue), and Russell (Judy), and one sister, Cindy Farris (Randy).
