He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Florence. He enjoyed driving the church van and bringing many of his friends to church. He also helped to cut the church's grass even after the age of 90.
Farming was also an important part of his life having grown up as the son of a farmer in northern Lauderdale County. He loved to have a garden and to raise cattle and hogs. Often his calves were named and treated as pets. Attending the Florence Livestock Auction and visiting with other farmer friends was one of his favorite pastimes. Another favorite was watching the Atlanta Braves whenever they were on television.
