Tyson E. Robertson, 80, of Florence, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at his home with his wife, Betty, who took care of him for many years, by his side.
He was born in Anderson, Ala., on Feb. 11, 1933, to the late Asa and Hattie Robertson and grew up in the Lawrenceburg area. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
He was married to Betty Oswalt Robertson for 57 years.
He served in the Marine Corps for three years from 1953 to 1956 and was retired from Reynolds where he worked for 30 years. During his sons' baseball playing years, he was President of the Point Park Little League. After retiring he became very active in NAMI Shoals, which he and his wife organized in 1985. He was their first fund-raiser chair, organizing yard sales and later helping with auctions. He had to step down from being active when his heart disease and COPD worsened. He fought such a strong and long battle, but he can now rest, breathe and hear again.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had such a great sense of humor which he enjoyed using on his children and grandchildren. He was greatly loved and will be missed.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; his children, Deborah Bond (Michael), of Chesapeake VA, Darrell Robertson (Lisa), of Flower Mound, Texas, and David Robertson, of Florence; grandsons; Chris Bond, Richard Bond and Scott Bond, of Virginia; granddaughters, Erica and Stephanie Robertson; sister-in-law Charlotte Snow; three nieces; four nephews; three great-nieces; one great-nephew.
The family wants to thank Dr. Ronald McCoy and his staff for all the years they took such wonderful care. Also thanks to Susie of Elder Care, Dayna and Dawn and the rest of the staff at Southern Care. A special thanks to Pat and Donnie Weatherford for being such special friends.
Visitation will be today from 5-7 p.m. and the funeral Monday, Oct., 14 at 11 a.m. at Spry-Williams in Florence with Brother Randy Burbank presiding. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
