C.J. (Bart) Bartkoviak, 88, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011. Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Monday at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee, with the service to follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. J.B. Burns will officiate. Burial will be at Burns Cemetery, Maud.
Mr. Bartkoviak was a loving husband, the best dad a girl could have, a wonderful pawpaw and was loved deeply by all his family, friends and former students. He was a World War II veteran where as a member of the 514th Field Artillery Battalion, he was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. After graduating from Texas A&M University on a GI Bill, he had a fascinating career, first at Keesler Air Force Base and then Redstone Arsenal, working on surface to air missiles and teaching soldiers electronic maintenance of missiles. He then had a second career as an instructor at Muscle Shoals Technical College. Bart was a faithful member of the Lions Club, N.A.R.F.E. Association Chapter 233, VFW, Rose Trail Association and Pals.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bartkoviak; daughters, Melissa Foster, Vanessa Breeden and Marsha Cornelius; grandchildren, Kevin and Rachel Foster and Anna Grace Cornelius; two brothers and two sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
