Melvin Keith Borden, age 43, of Cherokee, died Tuesday, Sept 6, 2011.
The family will receive friends for visitation 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee.
Because of the his love for the outdoors, a graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Harris Chapel Cemetery. Richard Fox and Frank Whitaker will be officiating.
Keith was a native of Colbert County and was employed at Cherokee Nitrogen. He was a 1986 graduate of Cherokee High School and a 1991 graduate of UNA. Keith served his country as a first lieutenant in the Alabama National Guard. Keith was active at Mountain Springs Baptist Church. He served as deacon, Sunday School director and teacher.
Of all Keith's wonderful attributes and character traits, he was above all a loving husband, father, son and special uncle and mentor to his niece, Morganne Weaver.
Preceding him in death are his sister, Lisa Borden Weaver, and grandparents, Leroy Russell and Ossie and Conrad Brown.
Keith is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Kary Jackson Borden; parents, Chester and Peggy Borden; son, Jared Keith Borden; daughter, Kayla Nicole Borden; grandmother, Mary K. Russell; father- and mother-in-law, Larry and Karen Pounders; sister-in-law, Lauren Carpenter and husband, Drew; brother-in-law, Eric Weaver; and nieces, Madison Carpenter and Morganne Weaver.
Pallbearers will be Jason Borden, Tim Benefield, Shane Taylor, Lance Collum, Larry Pounders and Michael Joe Waldrep.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Springs Baptist Church or Barton Baptist Church.
