Paul D. Eaker Jr.

Paul Daniel Eaker Jr., Florence, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, after an extended illness. He is now in his eternal home with the Lord.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 25, 2013, from 10 a.m.-noon at Spry-Williams Funeral Home in Florence. The graveside service will follow with full military honors at 3 p.m. at Indian Creek Cemetery, Chewalla, Tenn., with Brother Henry Melton officiating.

Mr. Eaker was a native of McNairy County, Tenn. He was a Korean War veteran and was retired from Ford Motor Company, Sheffield, Ala., and K-Mart. He was a gentle, kind, quiet and unassuming man who loved family and God. He was always ready to reach down his hand to help those in need. With his rich baritone voice, he was a blessing in the church choir. He was an animal lover and took pleasure in caring for his own pets and strays. Mr. Eaker was an avid gardener in vegetable and rose gardens. He and his wife, Sylvia, shared the abundance of their vegetable garden with many. He had great joy in sharing the fruits of his labor with others. Gardening was his hobby until his health began failing him in the late 90s.

He was a giver to missions, his church and the Native American Indian Field, Peoria, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul D. and Ida Gurley Eaker; brother, Gordon; sisters, Ima Hudson and Lula Crocker; and his beloved cat, Sheba.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Sylvia Britton Eaker; special nephews, James Daniel Eaker, La., and Carmon Britton, Tenn.; special nieces, Joan Britton Bradford, Tenn.; special great niece, Tara Britton Wilburn, Tenn.; and many other nieces; and nephews that he loved.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brother Mike Nash, Carmon Britton, Jetta Forsythe, Brother Tommy James, Walter Crawford and James Earl Britton.

To his caregivers, Levonne and Alisa, thank you for being so kind. Thanks to Dr. Pounders, Dr. Webb and the nurses and staff at Glenwood for giving him the care he needed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Loaves and Fishes, Faith Church Benevalence or the Disabled American Veterans.
