William Haston Alexander, age 92, of Red Rock Road, Tuscumbia, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012. Visitation will be Thursday noon-2 p.m. at Red Rock Church of Christ. His funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary with David Conley officiating. Burial will be in Barton Cemetery.
Mr. Alexander was a native of Lawrence County, but lived in Colbert County most of his life. He was a member of Red Rock Church of Christ. Haston could easily have been lost being in the middle of eight children, but he soon asserted himself as an audacious, fun loving fellow; someone on whom his whole family could depend. His life was put on hold upon joining the military in 1942. He saw action in North Africa, Italy at Anzio, Southern France, Belgium at the Battle of the Bulge and Germany where he served with the military policy force. He came home to Colbert County where he married Alma F. Foster, his wife of 65 years, who preceded him death.
Survivors include his son, Bill Alexander and wife, Sylvia, of Muscle Shoals; daughters, Lucretia Booth and husband Steve, Sarah Wilkerson, all of Tuscumbia; sister, Imogene Brackin, of Town Creek; grandchildren, Robbie Alexander Hyde and husband, David, William H. Alexander III, "Trey" Alexander and wife, Shana, Emily Parker and husband, Michael, Kahl Wilkerson; foster grandson, Jose Martinez; great grandchildren, Aubrey Alexander, Elleck Parker, William Haston Alexander IV, Mary Grissom Hyde and Brock Parker.
