Jack W. Tankersley

Mr. Jack W. Tankersley, 83, a resident of Vestavia Hills, Ala. and a former resident of Florence, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014, at UAB Hospital. He was a longtime member of Highland Baptist Church of Florence where he served as an usher for 15 years and a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala. for the past year. He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Gilbert Islands aircraft carrier in the Korean War.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 30, 2014, from 12:30-2 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home in Florence, Ala. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

Mr. Tankersley was preceded in death by his parents, William Cicero and Ruby Patterson Tankersley.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Coffman Tankersley of 59 years; sons, Craig Tankersley and wife, Martha, of Birmingham, Ala., Mark Tankersley, of Brandon, Miss., Jack Thomas "Tom" and fiancée, Kim Merkl, of Marco Island, Fla.; and grandchildren, Jack, Daniel, Alex, Joe, and Alyssa Tankersley.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland Baptist Church of Florence or Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala.

Sincere gratitude is expressed to the Palliative Care unit at UAB Hospital.
