Kenneth R. Gant

Kenneth Ray Gant, 80, of Elgin, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at his residence.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2-3 p.m. at Rogersville Funeral Home with funeral service to follow in the chapel with Reverend Ian Butler officiating. Burial will be in Civitan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Mr. Gant was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War. He was a member of Elgin United Methodist Church and retired from Rohm and Haas after 30 years as a union leader for Local No. 88.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Erskin and Elizabeth Gant, brothers, Lester, Sam, and Jeff Gant, first wife, Barbara DeWees Gant, daughter, Cynthia Dietz Gant, and granddaughter, Melissa Clark.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Herston Stacey Gant; daughters, Pamela Zalot, Barbara (Greg) Hunt, and Laura (Mark) Thompson; son, Kenneth (Nellie) Gant Jr.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brothers, Otis and Eugene Gant.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Gentiva Hospice or to Elgin United Methodist Church Building Fund.
