Joseph McLaughlin, 74, passed away with his wife by his side Dec. 12, 2010, at ECM after a brief illness.

He was a resident of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and Florence, Ala.

In 1970, he moved to his beloved Florida, where he owned and operated his business of designing and building specialized cabinets and furnishings. In this, he was a true artist, very successful and took great pride in each piece done.
He served as a military policeman in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion and Moose Club.
He is survived by his wife and partner of 34 years, Jackie Yeager McLaughlin. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Lester Kellaway, of Colorado. He was especially close to Patrick McLaughlin and Bridget Lanzetta, niece and nephew in Pennsylvania.
He also is survived, in Lauderdale County, by mother-in-law, Eloise Yeager; and Jackie's siblings, Mike Yeager (Teresa), Tim Yeager (Alice), Vic Yeager (Camille), Beth Corum (Rick) and Suzanne Yeager (Tab Boyd, fiance); and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Judy Yeager Freeze (Presley Williams).
In lieu of flowers and other showings of sympathy, please make donations to the Judy Yeager Freeze Math Scholarship Fund at Rogers High School in Greenhill, 485 Highway 43, Florence.
Nephews said of Uncle Joe: "He made the best meatballs ever; he had the most muscular legs ever, and he only needed reindeer to be Santa Claus."
He lived life to the fullest, never met a stranger and had a huge heart.
"When Irish eyes are smiling" ... was Joe. He will be greatly missed.
Spry Funeral Home, Athens, assisted the family.
