Mr. Larry Larson Larkin, of Florence, Ala., died unexpectedly in an accident Aug. 24, 2011.
He was born in Cooper, Texas, on April 2, 1941.
Mr. Larkin was plant manager at Royster Clark before his retirement. Friends and family agree that Larry, even at age 70, could outwork, outlast and outperform all of them. His work ethic was legend and a legacy he passed on to his sons. He was an avid cyclist, having ridden 3,186.3 miles this current year. He was an experienced hunter and fisherman, spending countless hours on the rivers and lakes of the state. He enjoyed it even more if some of his family could join him. He was a man of intense integrity and honesty. His word was his bond. He and Janice had celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2010. First and foremost, he loved his wife and family, and nothing pleased him more than spending time with them.
Mr. Larkin is survived by his wife, Janice Louise (Cathey) Larkin, of the home; sons, Michael Lynn Larkin and wife, Jill, of Florence, Wesley Scott Larkin and wife, Lori, of Carriere, Miss.; a brother, Elmer Dallas Larkin Jr. and wife, Carol, of Paris, Texas; four grandchildren, Olivia Michelle Larkin, Garrett Cade Larkin, Gavin Cole Larkin and Michael Lynn Larkin Jr.
He was preceded in death by his son, Stan Larkin; a sister, Glenna Fay (Larkin) Cavanaugh; and his parents, Elmer and Ruby Larkin.
Services celebrating Larry's life will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at Greenview Funeral Home, with burial following in Greenview Memorial Park. Friends serving as pallbearers will be Will Angel, Craig Linhoss, Shawn McDowell, Clyde Riddle Jr., Jerry Don Chandler and Jim Colligan. The Shoals Cycling Club will be honorary pallbearers. The Rev. William Bonee and the Rev. Chris Towe will be officiating.
