Ruth Llewellyn Allen, of Florence, Ala., died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 28, at Mitchell-Hollingsworth at the age of 92. Mrs. Allen was born Aug. 10, 1919, was a native of Lauderdale County and an active member of the Church of Christ at Shiloh, Woodlawn and (Darby Drive) now CrossPoint from 1955 until her death. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Reeder James Allen; parents, William Elbert Llewellyn and Annie Flynt Llewellyn; three brothers, Marvin Turner Llewellyn, Thomas Glenn Llewellyn and James Elbert Llewellyn; two half brothers, Vernon Llewellyn, Bennett Llewellyn; one half sister, Ethel Daniels; and a special son-in-law, Wayne Brooks.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Greenview Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, in Greenview Chapel, with burial following at Shiloh Church of Christ Cemetery, Greenhill, Ala. Barry McMurtrey, her eldest grandson, will officiate along with Frank Mills, minister of CrossPoint Church of Christ.
Mrs. Allen leaves to celebrate her kind, loving life, two daughters, Martha Brooks, Florence, Linda Sherman and husband, Renny, of Gulfport, Miss.; two sons, Phillip Allen and wife, Candy, of Delrose, Tenn., Max Allen and wife, Debbie, of Virginia Beach, Va.
Having many fond memories of "Granny" and her great meals and tender love are grandchildren, Barry McMurtrey, New Haven, Conn., Carmen McMurtrey Pope and husband, Geoff, Atlanta, Ga., Allen Brooks and wife, Alicia, Killen, Ala., Chad Allen and wife, Jessica, of Flowery Branch, Ga., Landry Allen and wife, Kristina, of Nashville, Tenn., Adam Allen, Virginia Beach, Va. Great-grandchildren who loved her big dinners, toys and candy dishes are Allie Elizabeth Brooks and John Allen Brooks, Killen, Ala., Margaret Ruth Pope and Mary Frances Pope, Atlanta, Ga., Anniston Allen and Brody Allen, of Flowery Branch, Ga.
Mrs. Allen graduated from Central High School in 1938 and followed her husband on the TVA route as he worked construction for TVA. She was a quiet, loving Christian lady with a sweet spirit. Her Christian life, kind manner and love of flowers and gardening will be carried on by many that she influenced along the way.
Pallbearers will be Renny Sherman, Allen Brooks, Chad Allen, Landry Allen, Marvin Whisenant and Donnie Llewellyn. A special thanks to Mitchell-Hollingworth staff, ambassadors of CrossPoint Church, North Alabama Hospice and a special niece, Doris Whisenant.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to CrossPoint Church of Christ Building Fund.
