William C. Holt

William Charles "WC" Holt, 84, of Florence, died Friday, Jan. 17, after a lengthy illness. WC was preceded in death by his son, William Gregory (Greg) Holt, who won his victory in Christ in 2002, and also by his parents, Erate and Annie Holt, and younger brother, Bobby. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eloise Franklin Holt; as well as his sons, Tim (Belinda), Kent (Shevilia), and Shaye (Judy); and his daughter, Cissy Davis, all of Florence. WC had 11 grandchildren, Micah Holt, Nicole Spencer (Erek), Sandy Homsley, Justin Holt (Mary Katherine), Rebecca Hamm (Chris), Melissa Morris (Eric), Chris Holt (Tiffany), Brittaney Gooch (Adam), Ethan Holt (Brianna), Drake Davis, and Cidney Davis. WC also had 19 great-grandchildren.

WC was born in Cypress Inn, Tenn. and later moved to Florence with his family as a teenager. He graduated from Central High School. He served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War stationed in Germany. WC was an electrician and was a member of the IBEW. In his career, he worked for the city of Florence, Garnett Electric, NASA and retired from TVAs Brown Ferry Nuclear Plant. WC was a faithful and longtime member of both Petersville Church of Christ and Cross Point Church of Christ. WC was well-known for his huge vegetable garden; he enjoyed growing the produce as much as he enjoyed giving it to friends and neighbors. Other favorite activities included hunting with his church buddies, taking his family camping to Waterloo, Davy Crockett State Park, and Panama City Beach, Fla. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Eloise across the United States and then staying at home playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 19, from noon to 2 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home with the service to follow in the chapel at 2 p.m. Frank Mills, Clifford Miles, and Ellis Coats will be officiating. Grandsons will be pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to either WICP (Westminster Interfaith Caring Place) of Florence, or the Friendship Center at Cross Point Church of Christ in Florence, or Mars Hill Bible School. The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Robert Mann for his many years of outstanding care, to Eldercare (especially Lisa Griffin), Hospice Advantage, WICP, and the ICU and Palliative Care Nurses at ECM Hospital. An online guest book may be viewed and signed at greenviewmemorial.com. Arrangements are by Greenview Funeral Home.
